🚀 A Decade Old WordPress Site Gets a 15 Minute Makeover 🚀
Would you believe that a 10+ year old WordPress site, left mostly untouched over the years, could be updated in just 15 minutes with zero errors?

It’s one of my first custom built WordPress themes, still live today, running on shared hosting, with no caching plugin, no CDN – yet its PageSpeed Insights stats are surprisingly good (with room for improvement, of course!).

So how did it withstand the test of time? Well, back when Visual Composer and page builders were on the rise, I chose a different approach:
🔹 No heavy plugins – just simple Bootstrap CSS grid to organize content.
🔹 Minimal dependencies – knowing the site wouldn’t be updated frequently.
🔹 Relying on WordPress core instead of complex third party solutions.

When time finally came to update everything, just because of arranged makeover, I did it with zero warnings or errors – except for a translation plugin that required a staged update.

💡 If you’re facing a long overdue WordPress update, here are your options:
✔️ Ignore it (if it works, it works – until it doesn’t) 😅
✔️ Update one by one and test each step (fingers crossed nothing breaks)
✔️ Create a backup and proceed carefully (smart move!)
✔️ Hire an expert to handle it for you (when in doubt, outsource)

💡 Bonus tip: Having a staging environment makes things way easier!

The Real Takeaway?
When you build lean, efficient, custom solutions, maintenance becomes stress-free (whether done regularly or every few years). No bloated plugins, no unnecessary complexity – just clean code and core WordPress functionality keeping things stable over the years.

Now, this old-timer is about to be redesigned – without a designer 😅. That means switching to a commercial theme packed with bells and whistles – and I’ll be chasing metrics while untangling the inevitable chaos, and that off course comes with a price of yearly maintenance plan.

But I’ll share the results once it’s done – not because it’ll be groundbreaking, but because this website has survived the winds of time, and off course to see if new stats can match these.
